MIT OpenCourse Ware : Revisited

Hey Guys.

The MIT OpenCourseWare is a really terrific resource that we can use for free to improve our educational experience. From there, you can download course files, projects, assignments, and even mp3s and videos of real life MIT lecturers teaching a class. For me it’s really cool to see what it it’s like to take a course at MIT. I love it! Though what I really like about the MIT OCW is that everything is FREE. And you can expect some TOP and cutting edge knowledge from the best engineering school in the world.

What I do is I download the mp3s of lecturers from the lessons that I want to study about. Just yesterday I downloaded a lesson about Graphic Engineering and I copied the file to my handphone. So while I’m on my motorcycle or while I’m not particularly busy, all I have to do is put on my headphones and get MIT’s knowledge transfered to me with full USB 2.0 capabilities directly to me brain, hehehe…. Well, you know what I mean.

Indonesian Airlines??

I got this email from an Indonesian-English mailing list. I laughed out loud the first time I read this, it’s that funny!

Adam Air, Lion Air, Air Asia ternyata merupakan pendatang baru dibandingkan dg airline dibawah ini.

Kejadian ini dialami teman saya waktu tinggal di Denpasar bersama ortunya. Kami sering nongkrong di warung jamu tradisionil di dekat rumah kami.

Pada suatu hari ketika kami sedang duduk duduk di warung jamu, sepasang bule datang ke warung yang kelihatan meriah dari jauh. Bule kucel dengan ransel di punggung itu melangkah dengan penuh percaya diri menuju ke halaman warung jamu. Dalam hati saya bangga juga jamu tradisionil kita sudah dikenal dimancanegara. Buktinya si bule pun mau mengunjungi warung jamu di Indonesia.

Makin dekat ke warung langkah bule tersebut kelihatan makin ragu ragu, namun tetap saja mendekati kami. Setelah dekat, salah seorang bertanya kepada kami dalam bahasa Inggris dengan wajah agak ragu, “Do you have a direct flight to Jogja for tomorrow..?”

Gantian kami yang bengong sambil saling berpandangan penuh tanda tanya. Bukannya kami nggak tahu bahasa Inggris lho..! Cuman tanya ticket pesawat kok di warung jamu.

Karena agak lama kami saling berpandangan tanda bingung, sekali lagi si bule bertanya, “Air Mancur is a domestic flight, isn`t it..?”

Timnya namanya Emphatic, terus aplikasinya SADAR gitu. Kalo diperhatikan, tim ini satu-satunya wakil dari UGM bahkan Jogja. Agak kecewa juga sih, melihat animo mahasiswa sini yang begitu kecil untuk ngikutin lomba-lomba kaya gini.

Kuliah gratis di MIT?

Bisa dunk, tapi lewat Internet. Di situs OpenCourseWare MIT (http://ocw.mit.edu/index.html), semua bahan kuliah yang diajarkan live di MIT, bisa kita download. Ini juga termasuk video kuliah para dosennya.

Apa ga keren tuh?? Menurut berita, dalam satu bulan terakhir 1,5 juta pengunjung situs OpenCourseWare mengakses materi kuliah seperti Robotika Kognitif, Penemuan dan Paten, atau Magnet Superkonduktor.

Makanya, buruan klik kalo pengen pinter kaya anak2 MIT!

Overcoming Laziness, Inertia, And Fear

1. Accept that you’re going to be lazy some of the time
2. Do whatever you can to make the process of improvement as easy and painless as possible
3. Don’t waste too much time trying to think your way out of your anxiety
4. Come of with a plan for what you want to accomplish ahead of time
5. Gradually work your way up to the hard stuff
6. When gradually working your way up to more difficult goals, let your momentum carry you through
7. Use your environment and your natural preferences as leverage against yourself
8. Usually the hardest part is getting started
